Up and coming country music artist Colt Ford is riding a Georgia wave of country music contributions – likely in a mud-splattered pickup. And while his home-state pride is quick to surface in conversation, the performer is building a strong core of Mississippi fans who rally to his rural rap. As the musician himself might sing/speak/credit, it’s a country thang.
Ford is the man and pen (with Brantley Gilbert) behind Dirt Road Anthem, a CMA Song of the Year nominee and a chart-topping hit for fellow Georgian Jason Aldean praising biscuits, back roads, mud tires and more. His most recent release, Every Chance I Get, marked a highest-selling debut for Ford, with the hit Country Thang and new single She Likes to Ride in Trucks (featuring Craig Morgan), written about his daughter, 16. That’s a song that’s touched a wide range of folks – parents and anyone who’s had ’em.
Ford is back in Mississippi this weekend for a concert at Club Magoo’s (formerly Mardi Gras), 8 p.m. Saturday. The show was originally scheduled at Fire and previously purchased tickets will be honored at the venue.
